Collateral evaluation, in addition to the general, health, social, and legal information, includes additional collateral information and is usually required by courts, in such legal situations as custody proceedings, Domestic Violence charges, Parenting Plans, and some others. In such instances in accordance with a court order, the counselor would contact one or more people a client provides as collateral contacts, such as friends, co-workers, etc, and then use collected information in the determination of the outcome. Additional drug testing is usually also involved.
